Olivier Gaide, MD, PhD

Prof. Olivier Gaide obtained his Medical Degree (MD) in 1998 and his doctoral thesis in 1999 at the University of Lausanne and Zurich respectively. During his PhD thesis with Prof. J. Tschopp (University of Lausanne, 2003), he designed a cure for a severe genetic disease (hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia), which successfully underwent phase I and II clinical trials. He then trained as a specialist in Dermatology and Venereology (Board certification, 2008) under the guidance of Prof. J.-H. Saurat at the University Hospital in Geneva. After spending two years as a visiting scientist at the Harvard Institute of Medicine (Boston, USA) with Prof. T. Kupper, he returned to Lausanne to head the oncology/laser/surgery unit of the dept. of Dermatology-Venereology of the Lausanne University Hospital. His current scientific interests are the early detection of skin cancer using non-invasive imaging technique, as well as the cutaneous effect of electro-magnetic waves, including radiotherapy. He has published over 80 articles in journals including Nature Immunology, Nature Medicine and Lancet.
